Translation
Therefore let us take the case, well known among the Greeks, of Epaminondas, the Theban general. He did not hand over the army to the officer who had legally succeeded him as commander, and keeping the army under his own command for a few days contrary to law, won a decisive victory over the Lacedaemonians...
