Ergo in hac causa, quae apud Graecos est pervagata, cum Epaminondas, Thebanorum imperator, ei qui sibi ex lege praetor successerat exercitum non tradidit et, cum paucos ipse dies contra legem exercitum tenuisset, Lacedaemonios funditus vicit…

Translation

Therefore let us take the case, well known among the Greeks, of Epaminondas, the Theban general. He did not hand over the army to the officer who had legally succeeded him as commander, and keeping the army under his own command for a few days contrary to law, won a decisive victory over the Lacedaemonians...
